‘Nizar Abboud, 58, from Al-Khiyam, 5km from the Israeli border, said his town was razed to the ground by the Israelis in 1978. The Lebanese rebuilt it “after liberation from Israel” and since then the population has tripled because they felt secured with Hizbullah protection. But he said “in the last 24 hours, the Israelis have systematically bombed out town with the ultimatum that all the inhabitants leave the Al-Khiyam.
Batool related the tragic story of 20 civilians massacred by the Israelis in Marwaheen. She said the villagers had gone to the UN offices for help after Israel had given them two hours to evacuate. But they were told to wait until the time ran out and then the UN refused to help. As they were leaving they were bombed by the Israeli jets. Batool was also angry at the BBC which she said was one-sided by supporting Israel. “They are giving so much time when one Israeli civilian is killed but over a hundred Lebanese civilians have been killed they hardly mention them.’
